Bruce was born June 26, 1948 in Paris, IL to Daniel Edward Phillips, Sr. and Edna Izetta (Thompson) Phillips. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Bruce worked for many years as an agricultural mechanic at Chrisman Farm Center. He was a member of the Scottland United Methodist Church and the Chrisman American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife: Martha Phillips of Scottland, IL; four children: Cheri Mettler of Scottland, IL, Steven (Beth) Phillips of Scottland, IL, Sherry (Chuck) Valeu of Normal, IL, and Carl (Angie) Ohl of New Cumberland, PA; two brothers: Douglas Phillips of Fishers, TX and Daniel (Patty) Phillips of Clinton, IN; two sisters: Flossie Pollock and Lois (Ronnie) Tharp, both of Deming, NM; seven grandchildren: Tami Gorman, Mackenzy Phillips, Madison Ohl, Marissa Ohl, Megan Borema, Tessa Valeu, and Josh Valeu; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. (C.S.T.) at Friends Chapel Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Scottland United Methodist Church or the Chrisman American Legion.
