PATRICK O'NEAL PASSES AWAY
Was Market Master and Baliff to Petit Jury
HE DIED THIS MORNING
He Was One of the Best Known Men in The County
He Was a Faithful Offical and Citizen of High Repute
Mr Patrick O'Neal, one of the oldest and best known citizens in the county, died this morning shortly after 3 o'clock at his home, 71 S Mechanic St, in the 73rd year of his age. The deceased had been ill for several months with a complication of diseases and grew gradually worse until the end. Mr O'Neal was market master and baliff to the petit jury at the time of his death. Both positions brought him into contact with people from every section of the county, hence he had a very wide acquaintance. As baliff to the petit jury for a period of about 20 years, he was a faithful officer and endeared himself to all members of the Circuit Court, the members of the bar, the clerks and all who had business at the Court House during the trail of cases. As Market Manager, he was also a careful and painstaking official. He served off and on several times prior to his last appointment to that position. A native of Ireland he located in Cumberland when quite a young man with his father, the late Patrick(sic) O'Neal and his brother, the late Dennis O'Neal. He was a butcher by trade and for many years in droving and butchering cattle. He was never married. He was a man who attended strictly to business and was well like. He is survived by two sisters, Miss Mary and Miss Ella O'Neal with whom he made his home. The funeral will take place at nine clock Saturday morning from St Patrick's Church. He was an uncle of Mr Michael O'Neal, the well known news dealer on North Liberty Street.

NB: The name is also spelled O'Neill and O'Neil in various records.
