Michael ” Steve” Orr passed away at Houston Methodist Hospital – Sugar Land on July 4, 2014 at the age of 64 of respiratory failure. Steve is predeceased by his parents, William and Ruth Orr from Atlanta, Georgia. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Marguerite (Margie). They were married in Houston, Texas on 1979. Steve is lovingly remembered by his son, Michael Steve Orr and his four grandchildren: Hunter, Mikayla, Olivia and Jackson all from Irmo, South Carolina. Steve was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1949. He graduated from Russell High School in East Point, Georgia and later attended HCC. Steve worked as an accountant for Gulf Oil in Houston for 16 years; then, owned and operated a landscape business in Sugar Land, Texas for several years. He sold that business and went to work for Claunch & Miller, Inc./HDR, Inc. in 1998 as a Construction Inspector until his departure in June, 2014. Steve enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially enjoyed his beach house in Sargent. Steve and Margie loved to entertain friends while grilling, frying or boiling seafood and indulging in adult beverages. Steve really enjoyed his yearly fishing trip to Grand Isle with the Tanner family – his extended family. He also enjoyed the nights he and his friend Don would burn some steaks and go fishing the next morning. One of Steve’s favorite hobbies was building custom-made saltwater fishing rods when he had extra time on his hands. He loved animals and in the evening would feed and watch doves and squirrels eat food on his driveway/sidewalk. His Border collie, Cody and rescued dog, Lady, were his constant companions. A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Chapel located at 13213 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, Texas 77478. Pastor Clif Cummings will conduct the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Houston SPCA, 900 Portway Dr, Houston, Texas 77024.
