Sheryl J. Porter, 75, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 6:56 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at TriStar Summit Medical Center, Nashville, TN.

She was born on July 10, 1941 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of George Herman and Maxine Ruth (Weismann) Hewitt. Sheryl was raised and educated in Monmouth, and graduated from Monmouth High School.

Sheryl married Phillip M. Porter on May 18, 1960 in Monmouth, he survives.

Sheryl worked for many years for the City of Monmouth as 911 Dispatcher for 19 years and later in Zoning Department for 9 years before retiring in April 2003. She enjoyed showing dogs, especially the French Bulldog. Many of her friends and associates were dog showing enthusiasts. Sheryl had championship dogs with A.K.C. Championships. She was also an accomplished genealogist.

Surviving Sheryl is her husband, Phillip Porter of Monmouth, IL, and one daughter Jacqueline (John) Payne of Nashville, TN and 8 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Todd Porter, and one sister.


Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Cremation rites have been accorded. If the weather is in climate on Saturday, the family would request that friends join them at 11:00 a.m. at the McGuire & Davies Funeral Home Community Room for a time of fellowship. Memorials can be made to the American Lung Association. McGuire and Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, is in charge of the arrangements.
