The son of William and Anna Coleman Sorrells, he was born July 6, 1938 in Tucker, AR.
Billy obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas.
He married Betty Sorrells, on March 14, 1981 at the First United Methodist Church in Dardanelle.
Billy retired after 22 years of service to the United States Army rising to the rank of Major.
Some of Billy’s accomplishments included being inducted into the OCS Hall of Fame for bravery, writing and obtaining the grant for the Pope County Senior Activity Center.
Billy was a member of the Military Officer's Association, Rogers-Rye Post 2283 of the VFW, The Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Lion's Club, Methodist Men, and served as the Election Committee Chairman.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where he had served as Chair of Trustees and Chair of Staff Parish Relations. Billy also enjoyed fishing, restoring antique cars, cooking, loved people and storytelling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Johnny
Sorrells; a granddaughter, Kristy Sorrells; a greatgrandson, Taylor Pruitt; a brother, William L. Sorrells; three sisters, Mildred Marshall, Vivian Godwin and Joann Edwards.
Billy is survived by his Wife, Betty Sorrells of Russellville; eight daughters, Judy Huffman, Sharon Pruitt (John) both of Atkins, Patricia Plummer (Keith) of Lawton, OK, Debbie Logue (Scott) of Cabot, Dianna Humphries (Markett) of Jacksonville, Debora Hanson of New Braunfels, TX, Kim Lowrey of Russellville and Heather Hibbs (Bryan) of Mahomet, IL; 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, May 26, 2017 at Humphrey Chapel.
Rev. David Ruehr and Rev. Rex Darling will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville, AR by Humphrey Funeral Service.
