Sarah Jean R. Norman joined her Lord early on May 23rd, 2017, when she crossed the Jordan River into her heavenly home.

Jean was born to Oliver and Mary Elizabeth Root on November 13th, 1925, in Canton, Ohio; she was the last surviving member of her family of five daughters.

Jean worked in Camden, SC, with two real estate companies during her mid-life years, but her greatest service was the 53 years she served as Music Director for the Wateree Baptist Church in Camden, an accomplishment acknowledged by the Church Music Department of the Baptist Sunday School Board in 1990, naming her Musician on Mission. Along with her music ministry Jean taught an adult Sunday school class for many years; her study notes were meticulously and faithfully gathered. She always brought her best lessons to her class. She was a member of Wateree Baptist Church from 1950 until her death. Additionally, Jean was a long time member of the Leslie Zemp Chapter 111 of the Order of the Eastern Star where she provided musical accompaniment for the order’s programs. In 2008 Jean moved to Whitewater, WI where she made her home at Fairhaven Retirement Community. There Jean continued her ministry by volunteering to read scripture, praying and encouraging all needing support and care. Jean leaves a legacy of being a wonderful mom and friend to many. Upon moving to Wisconsin, Jean became a part of the La Grange United Methodist Church. A fellow church member said of Jean’s passing, “Today the world lost a beautiful soul”. True, but Jean left her beauty in all of us, a wonderful gift. Thanks Mom.
