Maury was born on February 14, 1943, in Ft. Collins, CO, to Maurice F. and May M. (Licking) May. He graduated from Kearney High School and later Kearney State College. He married Frances E. Johnson on September 26, 1964, in Davenport, NE. She preceded him in death. He married Jeanne Ough-Hobelman on October 16, 2004, in Kearney, NE. Maury worked as a Pharmaceutical Representative for a number of years before retiring in 2005. He taught part-time at the University of Nebraska-Kearney in the Math Department after retirement and also served as the secretary for the Family of Christ Lutheran Church. Maury was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. He was also a member of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, Central Nebraska Auto Club, Eagles Club 2722, and the Kearney High School Boosters Club.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Jeanne of Kearney; daughter, Christine and Rick Johnson of Kearney; son, Mitchell and Sondra May of Aurora, CO; step-son, Robin and Ashlee Hobelman of Lincoln, NE; step-daughter; Mindy and Adam Walters of Grand Island, NE; grandchildren, Tyler Horner, Collin and Avery May, Levi and Lenora Walters.

Maury was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances E. May and sister, Luciene Larson.
