Gwendolyn (Gwen) E. Jackson, 93, of Nampa, Idaho, went home to be with the Lord on May 22, 2017, surrounded by family.

Gwen was born to Reu E. and Bertha V. Downer, April 17, 1924 in Fosston, Colorado, on a farm. She attended 1st – 4th grade in Colorado, moved to Meridian in 5th grade. Graduated from Meridian High School in 1941. Attended Boise Business College for a short time.

During World War II, she quit Boise Business College to help in the family grocery store, “Downer Grocery Store”, in Meridian. She helped in all aspect of the store, while her older brothers started the Downer Saw Mill in Prairie, ID. She worked in the store until her father passed away in 1945 and the store was sold.

On June 16, 1945 Gwen was married to V. Leroy Jackson (58 years). Leroy purchased WWII surplus equipment to start logging ventures with Downer Saw Mill. Gwen worked as the bookkeeper for the Saw Mill and took care home front. In 1953 they moved to Livingston, MT.

On July 3, 1953 in Livingston, Gwen met her lifelong friend, Evelyn Thompson. They remained friend for 58 years until Evelyn passed away.

In 1959, the family moved back to Kuna, ID for a year, before moving to a farm in Meridian, ID. In Spring of 1975 they moved to Caldwell, ID. In 2005, Gwen moved to Nampa, ID where she greatly enjoyed her last years with numerous activities and many friends.

Gwen worked from home raising the family on the farm, gardening, canning, Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, 4-H Leader and sewing alterations for Elite Dry Cleaner in Meridian.

In 1969, she went to work for Grade “A” Milk Producers for two years. Her next position was to work doing bookkeeping for Hinkles and McCoy of Meridian for 5 yrs. She then worked as a optometric assistant for Dr. Lester Downer for 7 years in Nampa. She then went to work for CBI Collections doing bookkeeping and Data Entry for 10 years until she retired in 1992.

Gwen was involved with many organizations, including Grange, Christian Women Club in Nampa, and Credit Women’s Association. She served many offices within these organizations.

Gwen had many hobbies: an avid reader, cooking, baking, canning, sewing, quilting, gardening, camping, going to the ocean, going on cruises, going to the mountains, crocheting, and knitting. In 2010, she crocheted over 1,800 preemie hats for the babies in the NICU in Boise.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; a sister; and her husband.

She is survived by one sister, Betty Carol Scott, of Weatherford, TX; sons: Jim Jackson, Steve Jackson and David (Trudi) Jackson; daughter, Ann Jackson; grandchildren: Lora (Chad) Dirk, C.R. Noble, Kara Jackson, Katie (Matt) Schwartz, John Jackson and Jacob Jackson; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the Meridian United Methodist Church, 240 E Idaho Ave, Meridian, ID on Saturday, May 27th at 10am. A viewing will be from 9am to 10am prior to the service at the church.

Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home and Cremation.
