Hatley - Judy R. Carter Howell, 74, died on May 21, 2017 at her residence. She was born on December 2, 1942 to the late Silas Carter and Eva Thatcher Carter, in the Quincy community. She was a graduate of Amory High School, class of 1960. She attended Itawamba Community College and Delta State University. She was a First Grade Assistant Teacher at Hatley Elementary School for 20 years. She was a member of the Amory church of Christ. She enjoyed playing the piano, watching hummingbirds and spending time with her children, especially her seven grandchildren.


She is survived by her husband, Larry Wayne Howell of Hatley; one son, Samuel Austin Howell (Tracy) and their three children, Sophia, Roman and Finn Howell of Hatley; two daughters, Janet Howell Smith (Dr. Dennie Smith) and their children, Gabrielle and Carter Smith of Saltillo, and Rennie LeeAnn Howell Smith (Russell) and their children, Brenna and Isaac Smith of Saltillo; one sister, Betty Jane Tucker of Amory; one brother, Bruce Carter (Barbara) of Quincy; a brother and special sister-in-law, R.L. and Shelby Jean Williams of Camdenton, Mo; brother-in-law, Joey Howell (Carol); nine nieces; three nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel, Amory with Mr. James Wyers and Mr. Philip Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow at Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brent Rainey, Van Ritter, Michael Simpson, Bobby Hill, Ronnie Howell, Kip Younker, Carter Smith, Isaac Smith, Roman Howell, Finn Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Mitchell, Josh Ward, Alvie Isaac, Ben Boyd, Reed Walton, and the members of H.A.R.T.S. of Hatley.

Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
