Actress. Born Nedenia Marjorie Hutton, she was well known for her numerous appearances on television, in film, and on the stage during a career that spanned six decades. She was born to a wealthy family and attended George Washington University for one term before dropping out and going to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. She adopted the stage name Dina Merrill and made her debut on the stage in the play "The Mermaid Singing" in 1945. During the late 1950s and 1960s, she was believed to have been intentionally marketed as the "next Grace Kelly". She made her television debut in 1955 on the series "Four Star Playhouse" and would continue to showcase her talents on the "small screen" through the years with such credits as "The Phil Silvers Show", "Sunday Showcase", "Dr. Kildare", "The Dick Powell Theatre", "The Rogues", "Bonanza", "Batman", "Mission: Impossible", "The F.B.I.", "The Love Boat", "Hotel", and "Murder, She Wrote". She made her film debut in the 1957 film "Desk Set" and later went on to appear in such films as "Operation Petticoat" (1959), "Butterfield 8" (1960), "Young Savages" (1961), "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" (1963), "Caddyshack II" (1988), and "The Player" (1992). She also made several appearances on the stage in various productions. She later went into business and was a philanthropist later in her life. She received a lifetime achievement award from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2005.
