Paul Edward [correction: Everette] Pilkington, 90, of Mt. Vernon [Illinois], passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016. Mr. Pilkington was born on January 31, 1926 in Cleveland, Oklahoma, the son of George Everett and Rosa Pilkington.

Paul was a World War II veteran, serving his country from 1944 to 1946 with the Navy "Amphibs". He served both in the Pacific and European theaters.

His occupation involved working in numerous industrial sites as well as being part of the security detail at Mt. Vernon Municipal Airport during his later years.

Paul enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting and an occasional round of golf. Paul was one of the 'good guys' in this world always willing to help family and friends.

Paul is survived by longtime wife, companion and sweetheart, Sharon Pilkington; his sister, Ethel [Pilkington] Yearwood of Mt. Vernon, [Jefferson, Illinois]; sons Bradley Pilkington of Fort Worth, Texas and Jeffrey Pilkington of Norman, Oklahoma; daughters Dana Pilkington Allen of Austin, Texas and Deborah Laws of Argile, Texas; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pilkington was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alice Grace and Carol Chapman [nee Kelley]; and brother Carl E. Pilkington.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Kirk Cemetery in Ina [Illinois]. with Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141. There is no visitation and those attending are requested to meet at the cemetery. Johnston Funeral Home in Ina is in charge of arrangements.
