Peggy "Pooch" Burgess Wharton of Charlottesville passed away peacefully at her home on May 15, 2017. She was born on June 23, 1941, in Altavista, VA. She was the daughter of the late Wilburn Lee Burgess and the late Pearly West Burgess.

She is survived by her husband, John "Wylie" Wharton Sr.; her children, Wendy Chaffee, John Wharton, Jr. and his spouse, Doris; grandchildren, Kayla Chaffee and her fianc‚, Will Zander, Kacie and Kara Chaffee; great grandson, Benton Zander; her sisters, Sandra "Ricky" Wood and her spouse, Bennie, Ann Bingler and her spouse, Danny; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was employed a number of years by Keister Williams Publishing Company and retired from the City of Charlottesville as a school bus driver. She and her husband were avid bingo players for many years.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dee Dee and Mark Thomas, Louise Lawson, Linda Morris, Willie and Sandy Snow, Ann Wood, Hollymead Fire & Rescue, and Dr. Arora and staff for their acts of kindness.
