Jimmy R. Davenport, 84, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 8:40 A.M. May 20, 2017 at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born February 17, 1933 in Belle Rive, Illinois to parents, Albert and Lillie (Cremeens) Davenport. Jimmy married Evelyn A. Langa on January 5, 1957 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 44 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on December 29, 2000. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Father John Iffert and Reverend Gary Davenport officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Jimmy is survived by his children, Karen D. Vest and husband, Doug of Mount Vernon, Illinois and David R. Davenport of Mount Vernon, Illinois; granddaughter, Lauren Laws and fiance, Jeff Bielawski of Champaign, Illinois; brother, Howard Davenport of DeKalb, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lillie Davenport; wife, Evelyn Davenport; and siblings, Charles Davenport, Harold Davenport, Mary Ellen Peterson, Annabel McClure, and Doris Boyer. Jimmy served the United States Army from 1952 until 1957. He owned and operated a wholesale florist, an owned and operated Davenport Office Supply in Mount Vernon, and was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Jimmy was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. For those who wish, memorials may be given to St. Mary Cemetery or Logan Street Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
