Peggy's marriage was featured in the west metropolitan Boston newspaper with two photos on the front page and a story under the headline "Worth the Wait" in the year 2000. She married Spencer Corkum who met her in the first grade. They lived in the same neighborhood, went to the same church and schools. They were both 65. It was a first marriage for both. They were married 17 years.
Peggy was very well liked by many and filled the church for her memorial service. She was 82. Margaret Elaine Davis was born in Watertown, MA July 15, 1934, but grew up next door in Waltham and went to Waltham Schools. She was a treasurer of the Lakeview Congregational Church for many years.
Very interested in genealogy, she was active in the Waltham Historical Society and two museums in the city. She was also active in the Waltham Scholarship Committee where they raised funds to help deserving Waltham students with their college finances. Elected the first woman to head the extensive Sylvania Employees Association, she was responsible for company-wide functions and attracting attending luminaries such as Jerry Vale. She retired from the Teamsters Union of New England, as supervisor of their Data Processing Division.
She was married in 2000 to Spencer Corkum, when both were 65. Life-long neighbors, it was the first marriage for both, and it became a front page newspaper story in the west metropolitan Boston area, entitled 'Worth the Wait'. They originally met in the first grade and their class photo attracted the attention of many of their classmates.
She is survived by her husband, Spencer; sister, Barbara Grierson of Maynard, MA as well as a large family in the US and Canada.
She had three sisters, who preceded her in death.
A celebration of her life is being held 1:00 PM February 25, 2017 at Christ's Church of Marion County, where she was a Sunday School teacher. She loved working with children and she also engaged adults the same way. She found everyone interesting and a source of love as well as optimism which she returned. In lieu of flowers, one may make donations in her name to Christ's Church of Marion County, 80th St., Ocala FL 34481. Arrangements entrusted with HIERS-BAXLEY FUNERAL SERVICES-Timber Ridge.
