William Marshall “Rocky” McLain, 66, widower of Betty Sue (Fisher) McLain of Pleasant Valley Road, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Sentra RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg.

Mr. McLain was born on December 3, 1950 in Augusta County, Virginia a son of the late Wallace and Phyllis (Hildebrand) McLain.

William was a member of Fishersville Baptist Church and prior to his retiring, he was employed by Wayn-Tex, Target Distribution Center and the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. Rocky enjoyed his work at the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community providing the residents with loving and compassionate care and after retirement, continuing to visit with them. Mr. McLain was an overseer of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, maintaining a two mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail for more than ten years. He enjoyed hiking and gardening.

Surviving is a son, William Shawn McLain and his wife Hattie of Waynesboro; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Stevenson; a brother Harold McLain and wife Janet of Craigsville; two sisters, Dale Bagarus of Craigsville and Deloris Minter of Goshen; best friend, Wayne Harrison; pet dog, “Maddie” and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A Memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 in Saint Stephen’s United Church of Christ in Harrisonburg, by the Rev. Steven Giddins.

The family will receive friends following the service.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901.
