1943 September Quarter death registration-
Name: "WESLEY, Munch G." (sic) [should be MUNCH, George Wesley]---Age: 26
District: Barnstaple [Volume & Page: 5b & 436]

The starboard mainplane of Vickers Wellington (#MP503), of 407 RCAF Squadron, with an aircrew of six, failed while the aircraft was in flight, causing the Wellington to crash, killing five Canadian aircrew members on board. The accident happened at Higher Winsham, near Braunton in Devonshire. One airman, the rear gunner, survived the accident, but was seriously injured.[The wing of an airplane that provides most of the lift is the 'mainplane'.]
The five airmen who perished in this accident were-
RCAF Warrant Officer Class II Joseph Arthur Raymoral CÔTÉ,
RCAF Warrant Officer Class II James Patrick HAUGHEY,
RCAF Warrant Officer Class I George Wesley MUNCH,
RCAF Warrant Officer Class I Hugh PINCOCK and
RCAF Sergeant Clifford Eldon RUSSELL.

He is also commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
