A Service of Remembrance for Mrs. Carolyn Jean Kelley will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 2:00 pm, at the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes. Interment will follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery, Floral City, Florida.
Jean Kelley went to be with our Lord on May 5, 2017 after a long battle with dementia. She was 85 years old. Jean was born in Dundee, Florida on Oct.2,1931 to Alma and Berkley Noegel. The family moved to Lake City, FL where Jean grew up and later graduated from Columbia Country High School. She was voted "Most Valuable Player" for her High School basketball team. Jean kept books for Eagles Dept. Store in Lake City after graduation. On July 6,1956 she married Arthur Kelley. They raised their two children in Sarasota, Florida where they were members of Bay Haven Baptist Church. Jean was active in the children's ministry at the church. She continued to play fast pitch softball on a city league, she played on a bowling team and enjoyed golf. After retiring in 1992, they built a house on Lake Tsala Apopka in Inverness, FL. While in Inverness, Jean played golf at the Inverness Golf & Country Club and was a member of First Baptist Church of Inverness. During this time her first grandchild was born and Jean will be remembered for all the "tea parties" she had for her granddaughter. While in Inverness, Jean was diagnosed with dementia and in 2009 she and Arthur moved to Kennesaw, GA to be near their daughter and grandchildren.
Jean was a very kind person who loved God and her family. She was always the caregiver for her husband and children and it was hard to see this role reversed as the disease progressed. During this time she continued to be an inspiration and witness for God's love to all who met her. During the last couple of years her caregivers were always amazed at her strength and her will to live. Everyone who saw Jean during the last few years was impressed with the love and care of her husband, Arthur.
Jean is survived by her husband of 60 years, Arthur Kelley, a daughter, Sheila Sola and her husband Gary of Kennesaw, GA, a son, Jeff Kelley and his wife Rose of Pittsburgh, PA, a sister, Judy Hingsen and her husband Henry of Live Oak, FL. She also leaves three grandchildren, Katie Sola of Forest Hills, NY and Stephen and Michael Sola of Kennesaw, GA. She was predeceased by her brother, Billy Ray Noegel of Lake City, FL.
Arrangements under the direction of the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hooperfuneralhome.com.
