A traffic accident in Tennessee has claimed the life of Thomas Urey "Tommy" Gilliland Jr., former magistrate of Christian Fiscal Court. Trooper James Sexton of the Tennesse Highway Patrol said he died of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident which occurred early Thursday morning. The crash occurred five miles west of Paris, Tenn., on Gate 3 Road in Henry County. He reported that Gilliland's truck travled out of control, ran off the left side of the highway, overturned and rolled into a tree. He was pronounced dead at 7:35 a.m. at the Henry County medical Center in Paris. He further reported that Gilliland was not wearing a seat belt. Gilliland's family reported that he was en route to Paris to work there with a relative. Gilliland, 58, a resident of Gilliland Lane, had served on the Fiscal Court during the 1990's, ending his term in 1998 when he lost re-election in the May primary. He served as a migistrate for District 3.

Services for Thomas Urey "Tommy" Gilliland Jr., 58, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lamb Funeral Home with the Rev. John Segree officiating.
Burial will be Sinking Fork Baptist Church.

He died Thursday, July 27, 2006, of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident in Henry County, Tenn.

A native of Hopkinsville, he was born Oct. 12, 1947, the son of Tom and Alice Morris Gilliland Sr.

He was a former migistrate of the Christian Fiscal Court.
He worked as a manager of a farm in Paris and was a former employee of Coca-Cola and Crane Distributors. In addition he was a former manager of Planters and Mullins Tobacco Loosefloors. He was a member of Sinking Fork Baptist Church.

A daughter, Brooke Gilliland, died in 2003.

Survivors include, four sons, Tony, Brian, Trey and Tyler Gilliland, all of Hopkinsville; a brother, Tim Gilliland, Hopkinsville; a sister Sandra Heltsley, Glasgow, and six granddaughters.
