Jimmy J. Wheeler, 83, Of Coal Grove passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at The Sanctuary of Ohio Valley in Ironton. The Ashland, KY native was born June 27, 1933 a son to the late Delbert M. and Effie Reliford Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Sue Wheeler of Coal Grove.
Mr. Wheeler was a graduate of Dawson Bryant High School. Jimmy was a computer programmer for the Armco/AK Steel Company where he retired in 1996 after 33 years of service. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and retired in 1993 as Senior Chief Aviation Storekeeper. He was a Coal Grove Village Councilmen and a member of Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Assistant Camp Director.
In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by:
2 daughters; Kathy (Frank) Waller of Coal Grove, OH and Jamisue (Dan) Weber of Mount Gilead, OH
a son; Robert (Susan) Wheeler of Cincinnati, OH
3 brothers; Clyde (Barbara) Wheeler of Ironton, OH, Charles (Yvonne) Wheeler of South Point, OH, and Harry Wheeler of South Point, OH
a sister; Nellie Blankenship of Venice, FL
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by:
a sister; Charlene Wolfe
a brother; Robert Wheeler
Funeral services will be 11:00am, Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South 7th Street, Ironton with Pastor Todd Warner officiating. Burial will follow at Ice Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
