He was born in Chicago on March 17, 1927, the son of the late Arthur and Clara Olsen. He was raised in Chicago and later moved to Lake Villa. He also spent 20 years living in Florida. He was an army veteran and a talented baseball player in his youth. Edwin was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed fishing, archery, bowling, golf, and trap shooting. Above all he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Edwin is survived by his children Ken (Melva), Steven (Susan), Janet Powell, Paul (Bea), and Brian (late Tammy); grandchildren Jennifer Houdek, Rebecca Burchi, Kristen Pedersen, Jeremy Kaup, Kristofer Olsen, Rachel Olsen, Steven Olsen Jr., Sara Olsen, Carol Scott, Nicholas Powell, Katie Calvert, Jessika Olsen, Shannon Filip, Shawn Staples, and Colin Olsen; great grandchildren Kierra, Logan, Braydon, Kelton, Anna, Scarlet, Isabelle, Ben, Joey, Aidan, Cade, Dustyn, Lilah, Thatcher, Ava, Riley, Emmitt, and Harrison.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris.
Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Ringa Funeral Home. Additional visitation hours will be from 9-10 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the funeral home. A funeral service will begin Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.
