John S. Fenstermacher of the Rockhill Mennonite Community, Sellersville, formerly of Telford, died Thursday in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was 90.
He was the husband of Adelaide S. Wisler Fenstermacher. They were married for 75 years.
A lifelong resident of Telford, he was a son of the late Warren H. Sr. and Sallie Spatz Fenstermacher.
After graduation from Souderton High School in 1921, in a class of 11, he began working for his uncle at the former Frank Fenstermacher Barber Shop in Telford. In 1931, he purchased the barber shop which he operated until 1942.
In that year, he took a job at the Marine Depot of Philadelphia through 1945. Later, he joined — and eventually managed — a tallow plant in Elroy until 1950.
Mr. Fenstermacher also operated the Fenstermacher Insurance Co. in Telford, retiring in 1988 after 57 years.
He served on Telford Borough Council for 38 years, until 1976.
He was the oldest active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Telford. He also held the longest active membership in the Mac Calla Lodge 596, F&AM, Souderton, having joined m 1927.
He joined the Telford Industrial Development Authority in 1980. He was a charter member of Telford Lions Club, serving for more than 44 years.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, J. Rodman Fenstermacher of Telford, two daughters, Arlene Dillon of Rochester, N.Y., and Sharon Kunz of Telford; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; twin great-great-grandsons, and a sister, Marion Baum of Perkasie.
Services will be 11 a,m. Monday in Grace United Methodist Church, Main and Reliance streets, Telford 18969.
Contributions may be made to the stained glass fund of the church.
