Tom "Mac" McCormick
July 30, 1947 - May 17, 2017

Age 69, passed on Wednesday, May 17th, 2017, after a courageous nine-month battle with cancer.

Tom was born on July 30, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, and grew up in Kettering, Ohio, where he attended Fairmont West High School.

He graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he was an All-American basketball player and later earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University.

After completing his residency at the University of Michigan, Tom moved to Kalamazoo in 1978 to work as an interventional radiologist at Kalamazoo Radiology and retired in 2015. At work, he was known for his compassion and empathy for his patients and revered by all those he worked with.

He enjoyed playing his guitar, fishing, listening to music, reading, cooking and writing. He was an excellent artist and lifelong learner, appreciated laughter, and, above all else, had an indescribable love for his family and friends.

He recently moved to Bangor where he loved the solitude of the country and being outdoors.

He died with his family by his side in the home he and Mary designed with their heart and soul.

He will be incredibly missed by his wife, Mary; his children: son ______ and his wife ______ McCormick, daughter ______ McCormick and significant other ______ Sickinger, child ______ McCormick and son ______ McCormick.

He is also survived by his three grandchildren: grandson ______, granddaughter ______ and granddaugher ______, who affectionately call him Papa Mac.

An open house with food and drinks will be held on Friday, May 26th, from 5-8 pm at the Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Drive; Kalamazoo (375-2900) and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 27th, from 4-7 pm at O’Duffy’s Pub, 804 W. Vine; Kalamazoo.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
