He was born Jan. 5, 1926, in Castalia, Iowa, to Frank and Marie (Allen) Cannon. Leslie was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from May 7, 1946, until April 2, 1947. While rollerskating years ago, he fell and was helped up by Audrey Nielsen and it was love at first sight. Together, they enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. Leslie was a lifetime member of VFW Howard County Post 4561 of Cresco, Iowa, and Cresco American Legion Post 135.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey; six children, Patti (Bernie) Puffer of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, Victor Cannon of Buffalo, Mo., Ruby (Larry) Lightfoot of Seattle, Marian (Ron) Bodin and Jeanie (Kent) Bender, both of Blaine, Minn., and Nancy Steele (Tub Stoltz) of Caledonia; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mila Damon of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
