Mother of Harry L. Sowle.Lillie Grace (Gilpin) Sowle was born in Metz, Steuben County, IN in 1866 daughter of Elias Parker Gilpin and Mary (Scholfield) Elton-Gilpin. It was said her father was a circuit rider minister and he disappeared around 1868. She had one sister Olive (Gilpin) Rogers of Hillsdale, MI.
She married Able L. Sowle on 03 June 1883. Her husband died in an accident in 1892 and she never married again (although she lived with George Schieber her son-in-law after the death of her daughter, Clela, in 1917). She raised her 4 Schieber grandsons to maturity living at Angola & Lake Gage. She had 2 children with Abel L. Sowle, Harry L. born 1884 and Clela born 1886.
