American Musician, Singer and Songwriter. Born Christopher John Boyle, he was best known as the frontman for the rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave. In 1984, he helped form Soundgarden, which released the its first single, "Hunted Down" in 1987, followed by two EPs. Their debut album 'Ultramega OK', was released the following year. The band released 'Badmotorfinger' in 1991, during the swell of attention that was beginning to surround the Seattle music scene, where bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam were playing a high-octane, high-angst brand of rock ’n’ roll. Three of Soundgarden's subsequent albums would go on to be certified platinum, including 1994's 'Superunknown', which featured "Black Hole Sun", "Fell on Black Days", "Spoonman" and "My Wave". The group, which included guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron, disbanded in 1997, but reunited in 2010 and had performed regularly since then. Cornell released five solo albums during and after his time with Soundgarden, starting with 'Euphoria Morning' in 1999. He also contributed the song “Seasons” to the soundtrack of 'Singles', a film about Seattle music scene, and performed alongside other members of Soundgarden in the film. In 2001, Cornell and former members of Rage Against the Machine formed Audioslave. The group released three albums before announcing its split in 2007. In 2016, he toured with another supergroup, Temple of the Dog, which featured a blend of members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. Cornell, who had a previous history of drug use, died unexpectedly while on tour in Detroit.
