Charles was proud of his wife, Jacqueline (deceased), and his two surviving children and their families, daughter JoAnn VanHorn, husband James VanHorn Jr. and grandson Jason VanHorn of Nazareth, PA, his son Dale Shafer and wife Terry of Bethlehem Township, PA. Charles is survived by his brothers, Richard Shafer, Harold (Puggy) Shafer, and sisters, Shirley Galante and Mae Rapp. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny and Robert (Bobby).
Charles was employed by Blue Ridge Winkler Text Tile of Bangor, PA; LA Fish Industries of Phillipsburg, NJ, and Tolino's Fuel Service of Bangor, PA. Charles was outgoing, enjoyed fixing lawn mowers, camping, golfing, bowling, playing quoits, and going to bingo and the Nazareth Senior Center.
A memorial service will be held on June 17, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Evan-gelical Lutheran Church, 696 Johnston Rd., Nazareth, PA, 18064-8828. Burial will be private.
