The death of John Hein occurred at his home Tuesday evening after an illness of nine days. Pneumonia and leakage of the heart being the cause of his death.
Mr. Hein was born in Woodland, Wisconsin, 56 years ago. When a baby he moved with his parents to Keokuk. There he lived until the age of 15 when he moved to Portsmouth where he lived until the time of his death.
In 1896 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Behrendt, and to this union nine children were born. They are: Mary, George, John, Henry, Clara, Edward, Lucina and Adaline; Joseph died in infancy.
Deceased is survived by his aged mother, his wife, eight children, one sister, Mrs. Mary Schultz of Milwaukee, two brothers, Mike of West Plains, Mo., and Pete of Portsmouth, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Thursday morning from St. Mary's church at 9 o'clock. Rev. Father Failenschmid celebrated the requiem high mass. He was laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery. The pall bearers were Robert Bruend, C. A. Leinen, Bill Brook, John Besch, Pete Stinn and Andrew Ostermier.
