Daniel Otto Richey Commander U.S. Navy, Retired Daniel Otto Richey was born on October 12, 1941 in Galesburg, IL to the parents of James C Richey and Ethel M Murk Richey. He is survived by his wife, Theresa A Catarino Richey to whom he was married to for 46 years. Two sons, Kenneth P Richey and Matthew J Richey and his wife Ana, their three children, Zachary, Katelyn, and Emma. Two brothers, James Richey of Indiana, William Richey of California, and sister Ann Richey Platt of Florida. Dan is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, and other family members. Dan or "Otto" as he was referred to by his fellow officers, enlisted in the Navy on September 28, 1959 in Chicago, IL and was enlisted for 8 years. On October 20, 1967 he was commissioned as an officer in the US Navy after completion of Officer Candidate School. During his military career Dan flew in F-4 Phantom and F-14 Tomcat series aircraft as the Radar Intercept Officer. Squadrons that he flew in where VF-121, VF-151, VF-111, VF-171, VF-74, and he also graduated on November 20, 1970 from Top Gun Fighter Weapons School. VF-74 was Dan's last flying tour in the Navy. He had logged 3, 111 total flight hours, 2, 736 hours in in the F-4 Phantom and 251 hours in the F-14 Tomcat. He flew 428 Combat hours on 214 combat missions, and had 769 carrier arrested landings, 532 day arrestments and 235 night arrestments. After Dan's last squadron he was transferred to the U.S. Navy Operational Test and Evaluation Force in Norfolk, VA for duties as an Operational Test Coordinator for the F-4 Phantom and F-14 Tomcat Weapons Systems, Air to Air Weapons, and Air to Ground Weapons in January 1983. In March 1985 he was selected to become the Director of the Navy Uniform Matters Office in Washington, DC and assumed this role in May 1985. On July 31, 1991 Dan retired from the U.S. Navy after 32 years of dedicated service. After retirement from the Navy, Dan worked at Veridian, formerly RAIL Company, in Arlington, VA as a Senior Engineer in support of the Naval Air Systems Command F/A-18 Aircraft programs until June of 2002 when he took a Senior Program Analyst position supporting the US Coast Guard Aviation Programs under the US Coast Guard Aviation Directorate in Rosslyn, VA. In June 2003, Veridian was purchased by General Dynamics and in March 2004 his support division was sold to Wyle Laboratories, Inc. where he worked until he retired in 2007. Dan will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who have known him.
