Samuel Broughton Deal, 94, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 16th, 2017 at his home in Leesville SC. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Oliver Deal. Sam was a devoted husband, father, and brother. Son of the late Samuel Caldwell Deal and Anna Dorn Deal, he was born in the Callison Community of Greenwood County SC in 1922. After graduating Clemson College with a degree in Chemistry in 1943, Mr. Deal joined the US Army, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, receiving both the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He retired as a Lt. Colonel with the US Army Reserves. Sam received his Master's Degree from Ohio State University and pursued his career as a Chemical Engineer for RCA in Lancaster PA. During his 40 year tenure at RCA, he obtained numerous patents in the development of color picture tube coatings with the US Patent and Trademark Office. He enjoyed his family, was an avid reader, coin collector and family historian. His other passions were traveling and ushering at his local church. Surviving are three children, Ann Coggiola, of Charleston, Catherine "Kay" Smith and husband Mike of Leesville SC and Samuel Oliver Deal and wife Melissa of Montgomery TX; two grandchildren, Catherine "Katie" Oliver Smith of Leesville SC and Jetton "Jett" Samuel Deal of Montgomery TX. Burial with Military Honors in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Callison SC. Blyth Funeral Home in Greenwood SC.
