Margaret Irene Vikla, age 81 of Veseli, died May 15, 2017 at Mala Strana Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family and a teddy bear. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Most Holy Trinity Church of Veseli. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the White Funeral Home in Lonsdale. Interment is in the Czech National Cemetery in Lonsdale. Margaret was born in Owatonna, MN on August 27, 1935 to John and Mary (Jirele) Ciffra. She was the youngest of three children. She was a 1953 graduate of Faribault High School.
On February 17, 1955 she married Elmer Eugene Vikla at the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. Margaret was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She sold Honey, Popcorn, Vegetables and Bakery Goods made with honey at the Northfield and Faribault Farmers Markert with her children and grandchildren as her employees. She was employed with Rice County Social Services office, Scott County Survory’s office, and Emma Krumbee’s Pie & Bread Company in New Prague. She was a member of the Lonsdale American Legion Auxiliary for 32 years and a member of the Rice County Historical Society. She served as 4-H Key Leader for the Wheatland Wheaties 4-H Club for many years. She entered projects at the Rice County Fair Open Class and inspired her family as friendly competition to win many ribbons throughout the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandkids.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Albert (Arlene) Ciffra, brothers-in-law Edwin Tuve and Ernest (Janelle) Vikla, and sister-in-law Lillian Simacek.
She is survived by children: Steve (Dori) Vikla, David (Kelly) Vikla, Theresa (Steve) Hyde, and Anne (James) Srnec; 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; sister Marie Tuve; brothers-in-law Bernie (Judy) Simacek, Sidney (Betty Ann) Vikla and Floyd (Donna) Vikla.
