Helen G. Powers 95 of Lakewood Co. passed away on April 22, 2017. She was the widow of Francis T. "Happy" Powers. They shared 58 years of marriage together.

Helen was the youngest child born to the McKewen family of Brooklyn New York. The family consisted of her parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Who have all preceded her in death. She attended catholic school at Our Lady of Good Council in Brooklyn.

She met her husband Francis T. "Happy" Powers on a blind date at a dance in 1940. They fell in love right away and married two years later, just before Happy joined the army.

After the war, they moved out to Long Island, to a new community called Levittown. It was the first planned community built for veterans after WWII. That is where Helen and Happy raised their four children.

She worked most of her life as a switchboard operator. As well as waitress.

She loved music, dancing, shopping, cooking, entertaining and dining out. But her fondest memories were spending time with her family and friends.

After her husband's passing in 2001, Helen decided to move out to Colorado to be closer to her daughter Dawn. She loved her time there and enjoyed the beautiful weather and scenery that Colorado has to offer.

She is survived by her four children, Dwight, Dennis (Vicky), Douglas and Dawn (Mark). She was also blessed with eight grandchildren, Nicole, John, Caitlin, Kimberly, Lauren, Katherine, Thomas and Stephen as well as 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved dog of 15 years Jacques and her furry friend Maggie.

Helen had a great personality, was always smiling and loved to laugh. She will be forever in our hearts and truly will be missed by all the people she knew.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held in Colorado. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery at a future date.
