Martha Lucas passed away on May 15, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born December 9, 1926 to Samuel Miller and Isabelle (Waggener) Miller, Martha lived all her 90 years in Holdenville.
Martha graduated from Holdenville High School in 1944. Martha married Joe Franklin on May 18, 1947. Martha and Joe had two sons, John Clive Lucas and Robert Marvin Lucas. She worked for many years at the Atlas Abstract Office as the Office Manager in Holdenville where her kindness and knowledge were invaluable to so many. Martha and Joe were life-long and active members of the First Baptist Church of Holdenville.
Martha enjoyed playing the piano and accordion. Volunteering was something she enjoyed doing with various civic groups such as the Holdenville Hospital Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies), Women Missionary Unit, and Garden Club. Being a dog enthusiast, she had several dogs over the years that she cared for but none she loved more than Trey Boy, Patches, and Grace. Martha also took pride in her garden and growing beautiful flowers.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Isabelle Miller, husband Joe Lucas and her grandson, Andy Lucas, sisters Betty Dooly and Shirley O’Shields and her husband Richard.
Martha is survived by her two sons John Lucas and his wife Amanda of Jacksonville, Florida, and Robert Lucas and his wife Kay of Austin, Texas. Her grandchildren include Chris Lucas and his wife Erika, Jon Duffy and his wife Naila Ahmed, Jessica Lawson, and Meredith Lucas. Great-grandchildren include Clayton Hodson, Paulina and Mia Lucas and Luke Lawson; and her brother-in-law Todd Dooly of Houston, and former daughter-in-law Melissa Taylor and her husband Rick; her nieces and nephews Jimmy and Karol Ann Dooly, and Sharon, Carolyn, and Ricky O’Shields, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Services to celebrate Martha’s life will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Holdenville. Pastor Rob Lindley will officiate the service. Interment service will follow at the Holdenville Cemetery immediately following the service.
