Mary Loa was born April 6, 1892, in Fort Collins, Colorado, to Otis and Myrta Carleton. She had 2 brothers and 2 sisters, and went by Loa. Her father Otis died in 1902 and her mother Myrta remarried Richard Carroll and they had 4 daughters and 2 sons. Loa graduated from Fort Collins Hospital Nursing Program in 1914. She married James Duncan McGregor July 5, 1917 and they had two daughters, Loa Jean and Norma Ellen. Loa lost her husband Jim in 1940. She lived in Southern California and Western Colorado to be near her daughters. Loa died in July 1982 in Grand Junction, Colorado, at the age of 90 from complications of surgery.
