Cyrus Pittman Orr Adams passed away early Sunday morning, February 22, 2015, in Rockport, Texas. He was 90 years old.

Cyrus was born on May 2, 1924 in Birmingham, Alabama. His mother, Jocelyn (Orr) Adams was from Birmingham. He was the second of four sons born to Jocelyn and Norwick O. Adams. Norwick and Jocelyn made their home in Alice Texas and that is where Cy and his brothers grew up. He attended William Adams High School, enjoyed playing sports, and worked alongside his father farming and working cattle. He graduated from William Adams High School in Alice and Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas.

Between high school and A & I, Cy was a member of the 453rd bomber group stationed at Old Buckenham Airbase near Norwich, England. He was a pilot and flew B-24 Liberators. Cy flew his last mission on March 3, 1945 over Berlin and was home before his 21st birthday. He returned to Alice to continue farming and ranching with his family. He met, and soon after, married Gertrude (Trudi) Durrette. Cy and Trudi made Alice their home until Cy’s retirement when they moved to Rockport, Texas where Cy enjoyed fishing with good friends.

Cyrus was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers William Adams, N.O. Adams Jr., and George Adams, his son David Arthur Adams, and granddaughter Olivia Luisa Rising.

Cy is survived by Trudi Adams of Rockport, TX, his wife of 62 years; his daughter, Cynthia Powell (Bob), also of Rockport; his sisters-in-law, Betty Adams of Seattle, WA, Jane Adams of Sugarland, TX and Louisa Adams of San Antonio, TX; his grandchildren Jeffry Rising of Alice, TX, Alex Rising, of Alice, TX, and Aloma McNab, of Corpus Christi, TX; many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

The family wishes to thank, very kindly, the people at Sea Crest Home Health and Aim Hospice. Some caregivers become quite special and we thank Carrie (the speech therapist who caused a lifelong South Texan to say aboot not about), Alana, who is almost family, Aubrey, of endless physical therapy patience and Judy who guided us through the last weeks and hours. Also many special thanks to Aloma and Josh, who each gave months to help care for their grandfather/great-grandfather.

Funeral Services will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 200 N. Wright St. in Alice, Texas at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 26th. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Episcopal Church of the Advent at 200 N. Wright St. in Alice, Texas or a charity of your choice.
