BERNT--Gus C. Bernt dies in hospital today; funeral Tuesday
Gus C. Bernt, 82, of 1754 18th avenue died this morning in St. Mary's hospital after an illness of five weeks. He was a retired farmer.
Funeral serfices [sic] will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with burial in St. Bonaventure cemetery. The Rev. Elstan Coghill will officiate.
Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Monday at McKown funeral home where the body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Monday.
Son of the late Edward and Amelia Gans Bernt, he was born Oct. 11, 1884 in Polk county. He married Theresa Greisen on Oct. 1, 1907 at St. Anthony Catholic church, Platte Center.
A lifetime resident of Polk and Platte counties, Mr. Bernt farmed west of Oconee and north of Columbus before retiring to town seven years ago.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure church.
Surviving are his wife and six children, Mrs. Floyd (Madeline) Arasmith and Raymond of Columbus; Martin of Tahoe City, Calif.; Louis of Ralston; Mrs. Jim (Evelyn) Davis of Pico Rivera, Calif.; Mrs. Jack (Lorraine) Cotie of Daly City, Calif.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred and Otto of Osceola and one sister, Mrs. Clara Alt of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, one sister and one brother.
