Joe A. Peterson, 82, of Dora, passed away May 15, 2017, in Junction City, Oregon where he moved the past year to be closer to family.

Joe was born May 16, 1934, in Grand Ronde, to Joseph and Lorena Peterson. In 1972 Joe & Daloris moved to Brookings from Dora where Joe partnered with Earl Byers starting Byers & Peterson Logging and working for Agnew 14 years. They maintained both residences and moved back to Dora in 1986.

Joe was a devoted husband and Father. He was active in his local community by working as the fire chief for the volunteer fire department. He was cattle rancher of Murray Grey's which he enjoyed as a hobby. Joe was a hard worker and would drop everything to help out a friend or neighbor. Cutting firewood and clearing land was one of his favorite things to do after he retired. Joe was also an avid hunter and fisherman Joe recently traveled to Heppner, Oregon to celebrate his sister Joyce's 95th birthday. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Daloris Joe is survived by his children Barbara Shrauger of Springfield, Don Peterson of Myrtle Point, Carl and Darla Peterson of Independence, Crystal and Rick Hale of Brookings, Susan and Jim Munyon of Junction City, and Bob and Trish Peterson of Lehi, Utah; along with Sister, Joyce Grasser; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren and Corky his sidekick

A viewing will be held from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Amling/Schroeder Chapel in Myrtle Point. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at the Dora Cemetery. A potluck will follow at the Dora Fire Hall as a time for remembrances and sharing. Hebrews 4:16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.
