Mrs. Alice Thomas Summer, 80, of 17 Bayview Drive died Wednesday. Born in Goochland County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Cora Johnson Thomas. She was a retired telephone operator with the Army communication division at Fort Jackson and was a charter member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Surviving are her husband, Harry Summer; sons, James H. Summer of Seattle and Stanley Lee Summer of Maryville, Tenn.; and daughters, Mrs. Betty June Smyrl, Mrs. Nancy Louise Vodry and Mrs. Delores Elaine Smith, all of Columbia. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
