Mary Catherine Higgs, 70, died Saturday, May 13, 2017 at her home after a long illness.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 7, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Isabelle (Haynes) Keefer. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Stanley G. Higgs.
Mary had been employed by the former Freeman Shoe Co. in Emmitsburg, MD and later had worked at the Lincoln Diner in Gettysburg for many years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by three daughters, Karen J. Lansberry of East Berlin, Mary C. Collazo of Clifton Park, NY and Sandra Lynn Gladfelter of Bonneauville; three sons, William J. Higgs of Gettysburg, Stanley E. Higgs of Fairfield, and Stacey Dewayne Higgs of Gettysburg; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Lynn Denike of Dover, and Sharon W. Crum of Gettysburg; and two brothers, Thomas Keefer and Roger Keefer, both of Gettysburg. She was predeceased by two brothers, James Michael Keefer and Stephen Mark Keefer.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1170 Kohler Mill Road, New Oxford, with Bishop Leonard Loski, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg.
