Dr. Jessica Elizabeth Thomas Bryant, 53, wife of Erwin L. Bryant of Lexington, died Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born September 26, 1963 in Versailles, she was the daughter of Mae Evelyn Vaughn Thomas of Harrodsburg and the late Jessie Clyde Thomas, Jr. She was a graduate of Anderson County High School and Kentucky State University and attended Indiana University then later graduated with Masters and PhD Degrees in Education from the University of Kentucky. More recently, Jessica served as a Professor of English at Eastern Kentucky University and had authored several books and articles relating to English Education. She lectured throughout the world including in Seoul, South Korea; was an avid reader, enjoyed singing, playing piano, traveling, and serving as an active member of Southland Christian Church.Survivors other than her husband and mother include her son Erwin L. Bryant, Jr. of Lexington; one sister Lala Coleman Williams of Harrodsburg; one brother Jessie C. Thomas, III of Springfield, two nieces: Jasmine Coleman and Shelby Thomas; and one nephew Jessie Thomas, IV. Several cousins also survive.A Private Committal Service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg. A Memorial Service will be planned at a later date.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Southland Christian Church, 5001 Harrodsburg Road, Nicholasville, KY 40356.
