Employed as railroad conductor on the Delaware division and was a brakeman on the Erie railroad. He also was a passenger conductor on the New York, Lake Erie and Western Railroad.

Served as a senator from Wayne county, Pa., Member of Pennsylvania state house of representatives from Wayne County, 1885-88; member of Pennsylvania state senate 26th District, 1895-1901.

At the time of his death he was president of the Citizen Publishing Company, of Honesdale, Pa.

His first wife was Miss Susan Kimble Pellett whom he married on 27 Jan 1869,they raised two children, Clara Louise and Raymond Waite. Raymond is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Find A Grave Memorial# 49197764.

His 2nd marriage was in 1916 to Josephine Durland Whitney.

Parents were George Harrrison and Harriett (Barton) Hardenbergh. They had nine children: Anna, Elizabeth, John, Leonard and Willy J. died in infancy or early childhood. Mary died at 18. Joseph Barton enlisted in the Civil War where he served and was honorably discharged He died at Hawley at age 48. Franklin Harrison died in 1876. Charles worked for the railroad at Avoca, Pa.; Sara Louise became a music teacher at Scranton.
