Carol Deane Helton, of Dixon, was born on August 6, 1937, at Campbell, a daughter of Olen Columbus and Riley Mae Deane (Farmer) Thomas, and departed this life at 2:35 a.m., on Friday morning, May 12, 2017, in the Life Care Center of Waynesville. Carol had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 6 days.

She was first united in marriage on May 10, 1958, at Overland, to Thomas William Hardesty, who preceded his wife in death on February 12, 1985. Three children were born to this union, Jacqueline, Linda and Thomas William II. Carol was later united in marriage on October 19, 1986, at Dixon, to James Albert Helton, who survives at the home near Dixon. She gained three step-children, Alice, Joanne and Daniel, in this union.

Carol had many accomplishments in her life, with the first being-she had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and followed Him in baptism early in life; with the second being -she was the first female St. Louis professional golfer; with the third being-she was diligent in her work ethic during her working life as a dispatcher for many years for the Maries County Sheriff Department, Vienna, as well as for the Dixon Rural Fire Protection District; and with others including being a part of the Dixon Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, who were known as the ÂÂ"Dixon Fire BabesÂÂ"; her unknown number of volunteer hours at the Dixon Senior Citizens Center; being an active member of the Victory Hill Baptist Church near Dixon, being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for thirty-five years; and best known of all, her hospitality to others with her talent for cooking, sharing her ability at quilting, sharing farm work with her husband, and interacting with and being very proud of her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Jim, others left to mourn the passing of Carol include: Two daughters, Linda Null and husband, Gary, of Dixon, and Jacqueline Murdock and husband, Michael, of Rolla; two step-daughters, Alice Wiles and husband, Randy, of Dixon, and Joanne Rollins and husband, Larry, of Dixon; one step-son, Daniel Cramer, of Brinktown; one daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hardesty, of Dixon; two brothers, John Thomas and wife, Debbie, of Overland, and Olen Thomas and wife, Lori, of St. Peters; one sister, Vanessa Thomas, of Overland; her grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer and husband, Michael, Thomas III, and Garrett Hardesty, James and wife, Courtney, and Julie Wiles, Teri and husband, Jody, Kimberley and husband, Landon, and Lacey Rollins. Zachary Ramsey, and Shawn Cramer; her great-grandchildren, Shane, Daniel and wife, Sarah, Thomas IV, Gabriel, Julea, Dylan, Payton, Clayton, Easton, Trenton, Caden, Cassidy, Everly, CeeJay and Ty; her great-great-granddaughter, Abigail; nephews; nieces; other relatives; and a host of friends.

In addition to her first husband, Thomas W. Hardesty, Carol was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas W. Hardesty II, on October 27, 2011; her mother, Riley Thomas, on March 12, 1989; her father, Olen Thomas, on March 4, 1966; and one grandson, Scott Ramsey, on July 2, 1995.

Visitation Monday, May 15, 2017 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM and Funeral Service Monday, May 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM all at Victory Hill Baptist Church, Maries Co, Dixon Mo.
