Carl E. Michalk, age 89, a resident of Bishop, Texas passed away Monday, January 10, 2011 in Corpus Christi, Texas as his son sang the hymn "Abide with Me." He was born in Bishop on June 25, 1921 to Charles and Emma Michalk. Mr. Michalk was the owner of Mathis Builders Supply, Mathis, Texas. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, West Sinton, for almost 50 years, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bishop, in his early and later years. Mr. Michalk was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a lifelong member of the V.F.W., Mathis, Texas.

Mr. Michalk was preceded in death in June 1996 by his beloved wife, Esther Wuensche Michalk; parents; sister, Frieda Ulmer; and three brothers, Alvin, Albert and Edwin Michalk.
He is survived by one son, Charles W. Michalk; one daughter, Cheryl (James) Adams; two sisters, Evelyn Bornhoeft and Gloria Bohot; two grandchildren, Misty Slovacek and Charles R. (Kristin) Michalk; two great-grandchildren, Summer and Hunter Slovacek and one great-grandchild on the way, Madison Michalk.

Public visitation will take place on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bishop, with Rev. Matthew T. Ulmer officiating. Burial will follow at the Concordia Cemetery, Bishop, with full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Military Funeral Detail.

Honorary pallbearers will be Miles Stanley, Ben Hansen and Marvin Wuensche.
Active pallbearers will be Morris Michalk, Kenny Theis, Odis Michalk, Cayetano Rivera, Travis Adams and Tem Miller.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 801 East Main Street, Bishop, Texas 78343.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
