Mrs. Barnes was born June 26, 1941, in Rossville, Ga., to Robert N. Smith and Martha Elizabeth Laycock.
She is survived by ...; sister, Jane E. Newell of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, E. Randolph Smith of Orlando, and Robert L. Smith of Concord; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23,2003, at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home Ivanhoe Chapel.
Interment followed at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
