Norma J. Carpenter, 85, a life long Rush County area resident, passed away June 18, 2016 in Rushville.

She was born April 6, 1931 in Glenwood to George & Ethel (Miller) Richardson.

She was a 1949 graduate of New Salem High School.

Norma married James Carpenter on February 20, 1954 and he preceded her in death on January 17, 2010.

Norma lived in Glenwood and New Salem on a farm & was a homemaker. She was a member of the Little Flatrock Christian Church where she served as Deaconess, was President of the Fellowship Class and Chairman of Home Base & the Salad Bar.

She is survived by a son, Jamie of Rushville, daughters, Debbie (David) Spaeth of Rushville and Linda (Richard) Mechling of Wilmington, NC, a brother, John (Mary) Richardson of Glenwood, sisters, Marilyn (Kenny) Vogel of Glenwwod, Elizabeth Lanning, Charlotte Kinder & Ethel (Jude) May all of Rushville, grandchildren, Jonathan (Susan) Spaeth, Amy (Lance) Lumpkin and Sarah (Brad) Mahan, 7 great grandchilren, sisters-in-law, Ruth VanNatta, Marjorie Carpenter & Jackie (Howard) Lower all of Rushville and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Edward, Floyd & Donald Richardson and a grandson, Douglas Spaeth.

Burial will be in the Orange Cemetery.
