Per her obituary, Pat was the daughter of Henry and Hazel Frei, growing up on a stock farm along with two younger siblings. She attended Cornell College in Iowa, earning her BS degree in English. She then taught high school English for a year before attending Carnegie Mellon University to earn a Masters degree in Library Science. Pat married George Hoar, Jr. on June 24, 1954, and in 1966 the family moved to California. Pat worked as a librarian, retiring in 1997. In 2010 she moved to Reno to live with her daughter. Pat was survived by her daughter Clara, son Richard, brother Bill, sister Clara, as well as three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
