Elaine Dorothy Hartman, 94 of Waverly, Iowa, died on May 10, 2017, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

Elaine was born on August 5, 1922, in Jefferson Township, Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Hattie (Nottger) Steege. She was baptized on September 17, 1922 and later confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Denver. At a young age, she lost her father and moved to Denver with her mother and sister. Elaine attended country school near her home and later graduated from Denver High School. She then attended Pitzie's School of Beauty in Waterloo, graduating in 1941.

On September 8, 1944, she was united in marriage to Donald Hartman at St. John's Lutheran Church in Denver. They made their first home on a farm in Western Douglas Township and then moved to a farm near Denver.

In 1959, the family moved to Waverly and Elaine began her career as a physician's assistant for the Rohlf Memorial Clinic in Waverly. In 1984, she and Don began managing apartments for J & K properties, caring for the apartments and the tenants.

Don passed away on December 3, 2002 and in 2006, Elaine sold their home and moved to an apartment. She became a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in 2013.

Elaine was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. She loved camping with her family and friends and dancing.

Elaine is survived by her son, Larry (Sharron) Hartman of Waverly; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hartman of Waverly; three grandchildren, Tim (Stacie) Hartman of Denver; Curt (special friend, Kara Acker) Hartman of Waverly and Lisa (Jose) Martinez of Rocklin, California; four great grandchildren, Joel Hartman, Hannah Hartman, Sofia Martinez and Isabella Martinez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald; a son, Rick Hartman and her sister, Florine Brettman.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Arthur Bergren officiating,
Burial will be held in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly immediately following the service.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service on Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
