Marie Cornelia Green, 93, formerly of Pevely, died May 4, 2017, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Green was a member of the Lutheran faith and was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was born Dec. 29, 1923, in Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Violet D. (Brooks) and Mike Lexa. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Barnett “Barney” Crider, who died in World War II; and her second husband, William Edward “Bill” Green.

She is survived by two daughters: Rosemarie (Donald) Hinrichs of Freeburg, Ill., and Madelin (the late Kenneth) Martin of Pevely; a son: Dennis (Marilyn) Green of Pevely; two sisters: Louise (the late Tom) Owens of Park Hills and Bernice (Willie) Richardson of Potosi; a sister-in-law: Patricia Lexa of Crystal City; five grandchildren: Denny Paul Green of Pevely, Denise (Paul) Svoboda of Edwardsville, Ill., Jeffery (Cathy) Green of Hillsboro, Randy Martin of Pevely and Rhonda (Tim) Harris of Richmond, Va.; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Frank M. Lexa, Michael “Butch” Lexa and Lester Lexa.

A funeral service was held May 9 at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home in Pevely, officiated by the Rev. Roy Holland. Burial was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to Crystal Oaks Care Center in Crystal City. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
