Wanda June Cogswell Carpenter, age 80, a resident of Clearfield for more than 50 years, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.

Born June 17, 1936, in Farmers, she was a daughter of the late William "Bill" Phelps Cogswell and Blandenia Fern Craycraft Cogswell. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by one son, Bernard Joe Horton, in 2014; and a grandson, Josh Thibault, in 2016.

Wanda June is survived by her husband of fifty years, William Harold Carpenter, whom she wed April 14, 1967; two daughters, Janet Hogge and husband Don and Cindy Kerns and husband Tim, all of Morehead; one son, Anthony "Tony" Horton of Hillsboro; two stepdaughters, Susan Ebersohl and husband Skyler of Pontiac, Michigan, and Shirley Thibault of Nashville, Tennessee; 9 grandchildren, Wendy Dowler, Jamie Hogge, Aaron Horton, Rebekah Horton, Katlyn Brock, T. J. Mead, Miranda Vandegriff, Allie Stich, and Adrianna Kerns; and 18 great grandchildren.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mary Kay Utterback and Carolyn Cogswell, both of Morehead; one brother, Billy Joe Cogswell of Hillsboro; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Wanda June graduated from Morehead High School and attended Morehead State University. She was a teaching assistant at MSU for 30 years and retired as a family service advocate in 1999. Wanda June was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who treasured the time she spent with family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. She and Harold enjoyed traveling across America, sightseeing and spending time at the beach. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Mark Poston officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.


Visitation is Monday, May 15, 2017, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
