Killed In Action Mission - Capt Moore was making his first run over suspected military buildings about 15 miles south of Saigon, close to Ap Bac, and was flying at 150 feet as he was dropping napalm. The aircraft was hit by automatic weapons fire, burst into flames and crashed a few miles away killing the pilot.

On 12 Jul 67, Capt Charles L. Moore (pilot) was reported MIA in South Vietnam and was subsequently reported killed in action at the time of the incident.
While on a close air support mission, his F-100 aircraft was observed by the lead aircraft to impact the ground and burst into flames after it had made its ordnance pass on a ground enemy.
Evidence sufficient to establish that the member died at the time of the incident was received in this headquarters on 13 Jul 67.

- member of the 531st TFS of Bien Hoa AB at the time and was participating in Operation Concordia Five
- posthumously awarded 1 DFC, 1 AM, 1 PH, 2 South Vietnamese Medals
- showed dedication and leadership while working in hazardous conditions
- as a cadet, he served as a supply officer and an executive officer
- buried at the USAFA Cemetery with full military honors--the 26th AFA grad to be buried there
- name is on the Roll of Honor at the Cadet Chapel and on the USAFA War Memorial
