Rites Held For Victim Of Auto Crash
Stanley Sherman, 37, of Conesus died in a one-car accident early Saturday morning, July 24, 1965, when his convertible left the road and overturned at the intersection of Cole Rd. and Federal Rd. He may have been returning from the Hemlock Fair where the firemen's parade was held Friday evening.
The accident was investigated by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department and a certificate of accidental death was issued by Dr. C. T. Andolina, Livingston County coroner.
He was born in the town of Livonia Dec. 2, 1928, son of Clifford H. and Dorothea Sherman. He had lived in Conesus for the past 30 years and at the time of his death was employed by the Livingston County Highway Department. He attended Livonia High School.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, was a past commander and the present treasurer of Conlon-Mulvaney Post 1779, American Legion. He was a former assistant fire chief of Conesus Fire Department and a former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 79, Conesus. At the time of his death he was an instructor in the use of firearms under the New York State Conservation Department.
Private committal services were held at Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Livonia, on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Elsa Marsland and members of Conlon-Mulvaney Post officiating. A memorial service was held that evening at the Conesus Congregational Church. Arrangements were by the Drown Funeral Home.
Mr. Sherman is survived by one brother, Stuart C. of Henrietta; two sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Dorothy) Goodman of West Henrietta and Mrs. Benjamin (Barbara) Springett of Conesus; four nephews and one niece.
